The end of 2015 is nigh, and to celebrate various entertainment websites are publishing ‘Best of 2015’ lists. Below is a round up of all the lists we have come across (so far) that have featured Iain, Fitz and Fitz-Simmons.

TV.com’s Best of the Year: The 10 Most Underrated Performances of 2015
Iain De Caestecker

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has pulled a few secret weapons out of its arsenal over the years, but none more easily or more consistently than Iain De Caestecker as Leo Fitz. In Season 3, when he went to the ends of the universe to save Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge, who definitely deserves an honorable mention for her work here), De Caestecker proved he could do more by saying less. For a series that features superpowers and larger-than-life villains, the show’s most impressive performance this year didn’t require special effects or feature lengthy monologuing, just good old-fashioned emotions to anchor the more out-of-this world storytelling. Fitz is a man driven by loyalty, love, and a lifelong friendship, and De Caestecker has taken what’s on the page and turned it into one of the show’s strongest and most memorable performances. As a character, Fitz is the heart and soul of S.H.I.E.L.D., he can do pretty much anything he puts his mind to, and it’s become increasingly clear over the years that De Caestecker is the same. → Source

8. Iain de Caestecker (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.)

It’s very difficult not to fall a bit in love with Leo Fitz, from the way he crossed realms for Jemma, to the way he protected and defended Daisy, to his friendships with Bobbi and Mack, the character in and of itself is beloved, but all of that would not even be possible without the talents of Iain de Caestecker. The extremely talented actor stole the show in Season 2 even though he was a side character as we watched him deal with Jemma leaving him and his struggles to regain his motor skills. But he shone in Season 3 as he was given more screentime and just allowed to fully display all the aspects of his characters journey from his despair, to his determination, to his pain, to his heartache to the love that he has for Jemma. Iain has made me cry more often than not this season and I hope that the Agents of SHIELD writers will continue to play to his strengths. → Source

Iain De Caestecker as Leo Fitz (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.)

Although Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. doesn’t get the amount of love that it deserves, it’s hard to deny some of the best performances form the Marvel Cinematic Universe took place on the show – most of which came courtesy of Leo Fitz himself, Iain De Caestecker. While Iain did a fantastic job of portraying someone dealing with a disability last season, he has really upped his game going into season three. The scene in which he hits the monolith, screaming for it to open out of pure desperation, is a absolute fanfuckingtastic bit of acting. It’s a gut-wrenching performance by De Caestecker. → Source

24. Leo Fitz from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

We all fell in love with Fitz as the awkward, gadget genius who is incredibly loyal to Shield and to his best friend, Simmons. But this year with Simmons’ disappearance, we saw Fitz, the shy engineer become Fitz, the hero. Fitz never gave up on finding Simmons, even when his team did. Fitz is able to do what Hydra has been trying to do for centuries when he figures out how to rescue Simmons from the mysterious planet. But it’s after he saves Simmons that Fitz shows his true heroism. Leo Fitz puts his love for Simmons aside while he works to save the “other man” that Simmons loves, Will, from the planet too. → Source

3. Leo Fitz, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Oh, Fitz. Dear, sweet Fitz. We’ve loved this brave, loyal, intelligent science geek since the very beginning of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but watching Fitz’s totally selfless love for Jemma and his quest to find her after she’d been sucked up and transported to another planet by that stupid Monolith was something else entirely. I mean, Fitz went back to rescue the man Jemma had fallen in love with back on the alien planet because he loved her so much. Well, ah… he attempted to, at least.

The first half of the third season hasn’t exactly been the strongest string of episodes the show has given us so far, but the absolute bright spot has been everything Fitz (or everything FitzSimmons). Iain De Caestecker turned in several memorable, astounding performances that broke our hearts over and over again. Particularly notable moments included Fitz’s breakdown in front of the Monolith (pre-Simmons rescue), Fitz’s eventual rescue of Simmons from the alien planet, and the mid-season finale’s FitzSimmons reunion after Fitz made his way back from the alien planet sans-Will. We can’t get enough of Fitz, his heroics, and his big heart. → Source

SmallScreenSesska.com /// Most Memorable TV Moments of 2015 (20-1)

Sometimes the most memorable moments done have to include some huge reveal or death. Sometimes it can just be an actor that puts on such an amazing performance that you can’t stop thinking about it. Iain de Caestecker is such a brilliant actor who has played a range of emotions in his time as Fitz but this scene gave me chills and brought tears to my eyes. The frustration of Fitz is seeping through Iain’s performance. A big monolith swallowed Simmons up and in six months; it hasn’t moved. In that six months Fitz has done everything in his power to find out where she went. In the scene before this; Coulson encourages Fitz to move on but in one last stitch effort; Fitz busts open the glass case containing the Monolith and screams for it to “do something”…..anything. Even if it swallows him up and kills him too…in some way; he’ll be with Simmons and at this point; that’s all that Fitz wants. → Source

#2 Leopold Fitz (Agents of SHIELD)

54 episodes ago, Agent Fitz started the show as something of a caricature – he was the scientific sidekick and comic relief in the ensemble series. He quickly became much more than that though as the character proved that you don’t have to be the toughest guy in the room to be a hero, and in 2015, he went even further than that. Not only did the character deal with retraining his brain to do things that would have been simple for him before oxygen depravation left him struggling with speech and motor function, but he also became the first character on the show to visit and return through a portal to an alien planet. He then spent several episodes helping the woman he loves find a way back there in an attempt to save the planet’s only other human inhabitant. That plan might not have gone the way he wanted it to, but he stepped through the alien portal again willingly to save her life with an enemy. He goes above and beyond, topping his own actions on the show every week. → Source

#1 Fitz (Agents of SHIELD)

He’s such a great friend that he will, quite literally, dive through a hole in the universe for you. He’ll also put his own feelings aside, even though he’s in love with you, to do the right thing and try to rescue your boyfriend from an alien planet. (If you’re Jemma Simmons, that is.) Fitz tops the list of TV best friends because there’s nothing he wouldn’t do for the people he cares about. Whether you’re his best friend, or you’re his teammate, or you’re something in between, he won’t hesitate to put his life on the line to save yours. → Source

FitzSimmons Kiss, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

It was the kiss heard round the world … and one that was 50+ episodes in the making. After being separated by everything from abductions to planets (according to Fitz, “the bloody cosmos” want them to be apart), Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s best friend duo of Fitz and Simmons finally came clean about their feelings and consummated their emotions in the form of a passionate kiss (twice!). Lab research never felt so satisfying. → Source

#1 Fitz and Simmons (Agents of SHIELD)

Separately or together, critics have been calling these two the emotional heart of the show for the last two years, and their slow burning feelings for one another finally came to the surface this year – just as Jemma Simmons was stranded on an alien planet. The tension and sadness has been painful to watch because the actors are just so good at their jobs, but with these two willing to do anything in the universe for one another, we think they deserve a break in 2016. → Source

7. Fitz and Simmons, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

It’s been an angst-ridden ride for the Science Babies on Agents of SHIELD. Last year, we saw Leo Fitz (Iain de Caestecker) finally declare his love for Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) at the bottom of the ocean, but then he almost drowned, and she went undercover to work for HYDRA and it seemed as if they just were not as in sync as they once were. And then, at the end of Season 2, Simmons told him that she felt the same and that they should go for a romantic dinner (just before he went out on a dangerous mission, mind you) and then she got sucked in by the Kree Monolith and was transported to another planet. Talk about hard luck! Now we’re onto Season 3, and Fitz literally crossed time and space in order to rescue her – only to find out that she fell in love with another man while on the other planet. It’s a constant up and down situation, and with the fact that they finally shared a kiss and that we found out in the mid-season finale that Will, the other man, died. Perhaps the chance for our epic love has come? But in the meantime they will continue to make our heart ache with their touching moments and beautiful declarations of love. → Source
